you can get really good sound proofing by making a double wall without the walls touching each other, that's really hard to do, but it works

they'll hear you quite clearly, yes , because there's a hole in the wall, , ,,,,,dude that was one of the best statments i've heard this year, so profoundly obvious and correct, yet not too many people would ever think of that

no 'cheap' way to truly soundproof. the ONLY way to actually soundproof a standard residential room is to hang rubber sheeting floor to ceiling in a manner where it is not 'hard attached' to anything. it must float through an insulated suspension system.

I was setting up a home office in my apartment and used that clear alien weather stripping around the edge of the door since it is very sticky and soft so it conforms to the edges and moulding around the door and also the unevenness. Once the last piece was set and A/C kicked on, my ears started popping and I got a little dizzy lol. After a while I also noticed that the air from the vent wasn't coming out as long as the door was closed, so that sucked. Ended up taking it all off.

Alright I think I need a color sleep mix of pink green and brown noise where they are on their own separate tracks and their balance to one another flows so that it sounds like you are in a cabin in the woods with a muffled rain sound…..

What about fire safety? There are tests and fire safety ratings for materials that are intended for home use. When you start using things like moving blankets in a permanent installation you are creating a fire hazard. There are chemical fire retardants you could add to something like a moving blanket, but it's expensive.

If you want a more visually pleasing sound deadener than moving blankets, we use throw rugs. Get a thick pile and look for them on sale at furniture stores. They do cost more but have a more finished look. Like tapestries in castles. Haha

Sealing the gaps around a door can cause issues with your HVAC system. Like he said, it restricts airflow. BE CAUTIOUS OF THIS. It could reduce performance or even burst ducts. If you have a minisplit or wall/window unit the latter doesn't really apply.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have your level of expertise but absolutely agree that anything with "acoustic" in the name is just an excuse to jack up the price. In a similar vein, avoid any computer stuff marketed towards "gamers". It just means the company has glued some cheap LEDs on then want to charge 5X the price.

Is RC a good solution for outdoor facing walls to avoid street noise?

Sadly this will all not work for me for multiple reasons first I live in Germany and that means Stone walls also this is an old reconstructed and protected building that means a 3 meter high roof in every room of this apartment so sadly I need noise absorption not dampening 😢😢😅 my problem is the massive amount of Ecco’s 😂 and I’m also sitting 3 meters away from my door so there is that So any suggestions??😂😂😂

The trick on turning off the lights and seeing where the lights comes in from is a great tip 👍🏻. I just did that to seal off my windows. 😁 worked so easy and quick. Great vid.

Awesome soundproofing a room. If noise can't get in, noise can't get out...and that goes for smells also, I believe. So if you're dying in there, neither the shouts for help nor the smell of decomposition will be a bother 👍🏻😃

Not sure if others aren't seeing your entire video, so many people asking about not having access to the bottom of the stairs (and some quite hateful ones at that!). Perhaps they aren't listening before they make their rude comments!

You've used that aluminum butyl sheet in the wrong place. That material for metal surfaces, to prevent them from resonating. Sandwich or foam materials for acoustic isolation, those will be more appropriate for plastic parts.

There's some videos about making acoustic pannels. But this is better because it explain essential things like gaps in the windows and doors. Using cork sheets and vynil is a good way to improve the sound quality with a thin cheap material.
